The temperature may have hit the mid-60s Monday, but prepare for a slide down to the high 40s, struggling to reach 50, for Tuesday, the National Weather Service said.
That's as a cold front moves through the area Monday afternoon and evening, with winds shifting to come from the northeast.
"Temperatures 10 degrees above normal on Long Island this afternoon. Colder weather tomorrow," said Rich Hoffman, News 12 Long Island meteorologist, in an early Monday afternoon tweet.
"A short shot of cooler air" is expected Tuesday, moderating to near-normal in the 50s for Wednesday, said Joe Pollina, weather service meteorologist based in Upton.
Look for a slight chance of showers Wednesday night, rising to 70 percent to 90 percent chance on Thursday into Thursday night, he said.
Precipitation so far for November at Long Island MacArthur Airport has amounted to 1 inch of rain, as of day-end Sunday, which is .74 below the norm. The average monthly temperature stood at 53.6 degrees, 6.2 degrees above the norm, according to weather service data.
