Mild temperatures and low humidity are in store for Long Island Tuesday, the National Weather Service said.
Daily highs across Nassau and Suffolk counties should reach 80 degrees, thanks to lingering high pressure in the region, the service’s Upton office said.
The high pressure slides east of Long Island Wednesday, starting a trend of warm, sticky conditions that will extend into the weekend.
News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said Tuesday’s high temperature will be right around the average daily high for this time of year — 79 degrees.
“Dry, refreshing air is in place,” Hoffman said.
The Tuesday morning low at Long Island MacArthur Airport was 56 degrees at 4 a.m., the service said. It’s the coldest temperature on Long Island since July 3, when it was 59 degrees at the airport, both the service and Hoffman said.
Skies for the next few days should be mostly sunny, the service said. Tuesday also sees a north wind from 5 to 7 mph that shifts west in the afternoon.
Hoffman said skies remain clear overnight with lows again dropping into the upper 50s and low 60s.
The average daily low for this time in August is 65, he said.
Wednesday opens to sunny skies as temperatures begin to climb slightly.
Daily highs are in the mid-80s, with west winds at 5 to 10 mph shifting south in the afternoon.
