Long Island weather: Sunny skies, temps in upper 80s Wednesday

Following a cloudy, unsettled Tuesday, along comes Wednesday with sunny skies in the forecast for Long Island.
Temperatures were expected to reach the upper 80s, according the National Weather Service, as of Tuesday afternoon’s forecast.
It’s expected to be a “pretty nice” day — not too humid, said Carlie Buccola, weather service meteorologist in Upton.
Still, a high rip-current risk at ocean beaches can be expected through midweek, the weather service said. That’s with a nod to “swells from distant Hurricane Gert,” which is heading well out to sea.
Thursday is expected to be mostly sunny and just a few degrees cooler, with highs of around 80 degrees.
Overnight Thursday, though, was looking to bring a return to unsettled conditions into the weekend.
