October is expected to trend toward warmer-than-normal temperatures, forecasters say, with this week looking at highs likely in the 70s.

Indeed, the Climate Prediction Center is indicating a 60 to 70 percent probability for above-normal temperatures for October, with 63 degrees the average monthly high at Long Island MacArthur Airport. The overall monthly average, with highs and lows included, is 54.3 degrees.

It should be sunny Tuesday on Long Island with a high temperature in the low 70s and light winds, forecasters said.

Normal highs for this time of year are around 68 degrees.

Wednesday should be sunny, Thursday partly sunny and Friday partly sunny, the National Weather Service said.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said he expected above-normal temperatures through most of the next seven days.

“Very nice weather today and tomorrow,” Hoffman added.

The high daytime temperatures will be in the 70s for the remainder of the workweek, and nighttime lows will range from the upper 40s to the upper 50s, the weather service said.

The weekend begins with partly sunny skies Saturday, but there is a chance of rain Saturday night into Sunday morning, the weather service said.

Monday, the Columbus Day holiday, will be mostly cloudy with a chance of showers, the weather service said.
