Wednesday’s forecast for Long Island is for plenty of sunshine and daily highs in the upper 70s, the National Weather Service said.

The service’s Upton office calls for light winds from the east at 6 to 8 mph with just a few clouds.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman sees some areas with temperatures in the low 80s on the first day of “meteorological summer,” or the months of June, July and August.

The service said cooler and drier air will continue to spread into the Northeast, resulting in mostly sunshine on Wednesday and Thursday.

An easterly air flow developing late Wednesday and into Thursday morning will result in increasing clouds, the service said.

Hoffman said overnight lows will be in the upper 50s and low 60s.

Thursday is slightly cloudy with daily highs dropping into the low to mid 70s.
