Long Island on Wednesday gets a tempting dose of sunshine and temperatures in the low 70s, forecasters said.

The National Weather Service’s Upton office said high pressure in southeastern Canada extending into the northeastern United States will generate mild and dry conditions in Nassau and Suffolk counties through Thursday.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman calls for daily highs in the low 70s Wednesday, with Nassau County likely seeing a few more clouds. He said winds will be light, shifting from the north to the south-southwest at 5 to 10 mph.

Skies clear and conditions cool overnight into Thursday morning, Hoffman said. Winds shift again, to the northeast, and overnight lows are in the upper 40s with it getting slightly colder in the pine barrens, he said.

Thursday is a mix of sunshine and clouds with highs near 70 degrees, Hoffman said.

Both Wednesday and Thursday offer daily highs a bit warmer than normal for this time of year, he said.

Normal highs for early May are in the mid-60s, Hoffman said.
