Long Island forecast: Sunny Sunday, snow Monday

Don’t be fooled by Sunday’s sunny skies. Winter is not quite ready to depart.
The daytime high on Sunday, a mild 43 degrees, will be offset by the windchill of 20 to 30 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Upton.
And Monday could see a bit of rain — that will turn to snow by the afternoon.
A total of 3 to 5 inches could fall on Long Island by the time the snowfall stops, probably around midday Tuesday.
“Right now, we’re thinking it could be an advisory type of snow for us,” said Jay Engle, a weather service meteorologist.
The snow appears unlikely to stick around.
The rest of the workweek should be partly sunny, with the temperature climbing from 40 degrees on Wednesday to 47 on Friday, the weather service said.
Engle said: “We’re not expecting any major or huge warmups [but] you have a stronger sun this time of year, so if you have a sunny day, it does get a lot of melting accomplished.”
