Sunday was the relative calm before the storm.

After a mostly dry but cloudy day with highs in the upper 70s and similar conditions forecast Sunday night with a low of 70 degrees, Monday will bring a 30% to 40% chance of showers after 9 a.m., the National Weather Service said.

Monday, "remnants of tropical cyclone Ida" — which hit New Orleans Sunday afternoon as a category 4 hurricane — could usher in a "period of moderate to heavy rain," mostly Tuesday night through Thursday morning, according to a Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the weather service.

The high for the week should top out at 84 with the temperature falling to the mid-70s by Thursday across Long Island.

The local alert covers New York Harbor, Peconic and Gardiners bays, South Shore bays from Jones Inlet to through Shinnecock Bay, Northwest Suffolk, Northeast Suffolk, Southwest Suffolk, Southeast Suffolk, Northern Nassau and Southern Nassau, as well as parts of New Jersey, Connecticut and New York City.

The stormy weather should be gone by Friday when sunny skies and a high near 75 is forecast. Friday night should be clear with a low dipping to 61, the weather service said.

Saturday should be a close to a repeat with more sun, highs in the mid 70s and a low at night of 63.
