Other than a slight chance of rain Friday night it looks like the dry weather that returned to Long Island on Thursday after days of rain will stay for a while.

Patches of fog could develop early Friday morning, only to be erased by the morning sun. The high temperature for the day will be about 73 degrees in Islip while a southwest wind will blow at 6 mph to 9 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

The chance of showers Friday night into Saturday morning is 20% after 2 a.m.

The weather service said the unusual warmth the Island has been experiencing will disappear this weekend, as a couple of cold fronts traverse the metropolitan region.

“Breezy conditions take place in wake of the front for Friday night into Saturday as a much cooler air mass moves in,” the weather service said, with temperatures ranging about seven to 10 degrees below normal.

Saturday morning’s lows could descend to the 40s, with “a few wind chill readings possibly getting into the middle and upper 30s,” the weather service said.

Saturday’s daytime high will only climb to around 61 degrees, and then temperatures will slowly ascend over the next several days, reaching 69 by Wednesday.

Similarly, nighttime lows will firm at least a bit, climbing from a chilly 41 degrees on Saturday to 51 by Wednesday.

“Temperatures start off near normal to slightly below through Monday, and then a gradual warmup begins for Tuesday and Wednesday with temperatures possibly returning to above seasonal normal by the middle of next week,” the weather service said.

Long Island’s severe drought, which began in some areas as early as August, was only slightly eased by the past few days of rain.

Bellmore in Nassau led the list, with 2.56 inches of rain. And in Suffolk, Southold ranked first, with 3.31 inches, the weather service said.
