Forecasters expect a showery stretch, from the early hours of Friday right through Saturday, forecasters said.

Temperatures Thursday rose to the mid-60s — and how about that for the first day of November? The normal high for the day at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma is 58, with 41 the normal low.

Storms containing "a few strong to damaging gusts" are possible Friday morning.

Friday's rain should be off and on until downpours arrive after midnight, with precipitation diminishing Saturday morning, said Melissa Di Spigna, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Upton.

The weather service put out an advisory Thursday evening warning of a "marginal risk of severe weather" Friday morning and a "slight risk of flash flooding" Friday evening into Saturday morning.

There is a small craft advisory for seas of 5 to 8 feet off the South Shore until 6 p.m. Friday.

Friday is also forecast to hit the mid-60s, with Saturday reaching the upper 50s.

Sunday warms up to just the low 50s, but sunshine returns, making it a fine day for leaf peeping and other outdoor fall activities, such as the New York City Marathon.

"Perfect for running," said News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman.

The weekly fall foliage report on iloveny.com says many spots on the Island will be near peak color this weekend, but areas can vary, according to spotters on Long Island.

Among the good bets, the report says, are Riverhead, Mill Pond Park in Wantagh and Belmont Lake State Park in West Babylon.
