Thursday’s temperatures in the 40s are set to continue overnight, with a chance of showers later tonight and into Friday morning, forecasters say.
Some patchy fog is also on the nighttime menu, along with the possibility of a rumble of thunder overnight, the National Weather Service said.
“Look for warm weather coming on Friday,” before a cool-down, said Rich Hoffman, News 12 Long Island meteorologist.
That’s as temperatures are forecast to rise well above normal Friday to the mid-50s — that’s before the onset of gusty winds overnight into Saturday and a dip back to more February-like temperatures, the weather service said.
That means the low 20s for early morning Saturday and daytime highs in the mid-30s, along with sunny skies. Morning wind chills will be in the upper single digits and lower teens, the weather service said in its 4 p.m. regional weather summary Thursday.
As for precipitation, there’s a slight chance for a bit of snow Sunday night. Rich Von Ohlen, News 12 meteorologist, says he sees potential for maybe a coating or an inch.
That’s as forecasters are also watching how things shape up for Tuesday into Wednesday, as to varying chances of snow, rain and rain/snow mix.
