The thinking is that Friday starts out with sunny skies, but that could be delayed in some spots as patchy fog could briefly get in the way early morning, forecasters say.

After that, look for sun through the afternoon, as temperatures head up to the mid-80s, though high humidity will still be in place, the National Weather Service said.

Friday brings a high risk for rip currents at ocean beaches from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Precipitation returns to the picture in the early evening, with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Areas to the west and north of New York City were expected to be on the hook for severe storms, with hail and strong, gusty winds the main threats, said Tim Morrin, weather service meteorologist.

Approaching the Island around 7 or 8 p.m., the line of showers and storms was expected “to be in a weakening state,” he said, which is not to say that some couldn’t "reinvigorate."

Then, “Saturday may start out a bit moist with left over showers, but these should diminish during the day,” as humidity remains “moderately high,” the weather service said in its regional summary late Thursday. That’s as highs in the mid-80s are expected.

Sunday, bringing similar temperatures, sees a drop in humidity, as mostly sunny skies rule the day.
