A section of Sunken Meadow State Parkway reopened Friday morning after it was closed overnight because of downed wires, state officials said.

The parkway was closed in both directions between the exits for the Northern State Parkway and Route 454 in Commack, officials said.

The closure came after storms rolled through parts of Long Island, bringing heavy rain and gusty winds. A National Weather Service spokesman said winds reached 52 mph in Bayville at 5:36 p.m.

Just before 8 p.m., State Police said the Sunken Meadow was closed near the Northern State because of flooding and the downed power lines. A residence in Melville reportedly was hit by lightning shortly before 7 p.m. News 12 Long Island reported there were no injuries.

The Long Island Rail Road also reported that there are weather-related signal problems on the Ronkonkoma and Oyster Bay branches. The LIRR was reporting good service in time for the a.m. rush.
