Friday will lead Long Island into a weekend of mostly sunny weather with high temperatures just a touch above normal.

The National Weather Service said Friday will be mostly sunny with a high temperature near 86, which would be 3 degrees higher than normal for the date in Islip. The wind Friday is expected to come out of the southwest at 7 to 16 mph.

Friday night does have a 50% chance of showers, mainly before 2 a.m. The low temperature is expected to be about 71.

Saturday, Sunday and Monday, the first day of August, will all be mostly sunny, the weather service predicted, with highs in the mid 80s.

The possibility of rain returns Tuesday, with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., but both Wednesday and Thursday should be sunny. The high temperatures Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be in the mid to high 80s, according to the weather service.
