The beautiful autumn weather Long Island has been enjoying looks to continue Friday and through the weekend, but there is a chance rain could arrive late Sunday night.

The National Weather Service on Thursday evening was predicting Friday will be mostly sunny with a high temperature of only about 57 degrees which would be 3 degrees lower than the normal high for the date in Islip.

Friday should also see a northeast wind of 9 to 11 mph.

Friday night is expected to be partly cloudy with a low of around 42 degrees.

Saturday will be sunny with a high near 59 degrees and Sunday partly sunny with a high near 63 degrees, but Sunday night into Monday morning there is a 40% chance of showers after 2 a.m., according to the weather service.

The weather service said a high-pressure system over the Great Lakes will move east Thursday night and settle across the Northeast on Friday and Saturday but will shift offshore Sunday as a weakening frontal system approaches from the southwest and moves through the region Monday and Tuesday.

Monday, which is Halloween, has a 60% chance of showers, mainly after noon. Tuesday has a 30% chance of showers before 11 a.m., the weather service said. The predicted high temperature for both Monday and Tuesday is about 67 degrees.
