Long Island weather: Some frosty mornings, then a warmup through the weekend
A gradual warmup of temperatures on Long Island is on the way but not before some frost will land on lawns in the next couple of days, forecasters said.
"The cold trend continues into tonight with low temperatures similar to last night. Widespread frost will again be possible," the National Weather Service said of Thursday night.
Friday and Saturday are expected to be sunny with highs in the low to mid-50s.
But frost is expected late Thursday, Friday morning, Friday night and Saturday morning, the weather service said. Thursday's frost warning goes from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. Friday.
Wind gusts around 20 to 25 mph are possible along the coast early Friday morning, the weather service said, with lesser winds for the rest of the Island. There is also a coastal flood advisory from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday for northwest Suffolk and northern Nassau for "vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline."
But temperatures will gradually go up through the 50s and Sunday should hit a high close to the mid-60s, forecasters said.
And that warmer weather is expected to continue through at least Wednesday, with highs in the mid-60s predicted.
