Friday looks to preview a pleasant summer weekend on Long Island as the National Weather Service says the last day of the workweek will have sunny skies with a high temperature near 87 degrees.
But while it should be good beach weather Friday, those who decide to go for a swim in the ocean should be do so with caution as the weather service says the rip current risk at South Shore ocean beaches will be high through Friday evening. "High risk" is defined as, "Life-threatening rip currents are likely for all people entering the surf zone. Anyone visiting the beaches should stay out of the surf."
The weather service said Friday a west wind of 5 to 10 mph will blow.
Friday night is expected to be partly cloudy with a low temperature around 68 degrees.
Sunday will be partly sunny with a high near 84 degrees, the weather service said.
More mostly sunny weather with high temperatures in the mid 80s is expect for Monday and Tuesday before Wednesday brings a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms although overall the day will be mostly sunny, according to the service.
