Long Island weather: Comfortable Thursday leads to cold night, spate of sunny days
Perfect late-summer weather marks Thursday with sunshine, blue skies and low humidity.
According to the National Weather Service, the comfortable weather in the 70s will last the day and lead into a night far cooler than what Long Island has experienced recently.
An extra blanket may be needed, as temperatures are expected to dip into the low 50s. The Long Island pine barrens could be even colder, with temperatures in the low to mid-40s forecast.
"This is looking like it will be the coldest night in about three months," the weather service said.
The lovely weather should continue through the weekend, forecasters said, with daytime temperatures in the 70s and night temperatures in the 50s or low 60s before a somewhat warmer turn starting Sunday.
Friday's weather will be similar to Thursday, with sunny skies and highs in the mid-70s predicted. Highs in the upper 70s are also forecast for Saturday, with the low 80s predicted for Sunday, the weather service said.
Monday is also expected to be sunny with highs in the low 80s. There is a 30% chance of rain at night. Tuesday and Wednesday will be sunny, with highs around 80 degrees, the weather service said.
