Other than some occasional cloud cover, Long Island looks to enjoy more pleasant autumn weather over the next few days.

Thursday night into early Friday is expected bring increasing clouds with patchy fog after 1 a.m. and a low temperature of about 51 degrees. 

The National Weather Service said Thursday evening that Friday will have areas of fog before 10 a.m. but otherwise will be mostly sunny with a gentle south wind of 5-7 mph in the afternoon. The high temperature will be about 68, which is 10 degrees higher than the average for the date in Islip.

Friday night is expected to have partly cloudy skies with patchy fog after 10 p.m. The low temperature will be about 56.

The weather service's area forecast said a high pressure system "will continue moving southeast into the Western Atlantic through . . . [Friday night]. The high-pressure area will remain in the Western Atlantic through Sunday."

Saturday is expected to be mostly sunny, while Sunday will be cloudy. The expected high temperature for each day is an unseasonably warm 71 degrees.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are all expected to be at least mostly sunny. The high temperature Monday will also be about 71 degrees but the high Tuesday will only be around 60 and Wednesday just 58, according to the weather service.
