Long Island weather: Rain possible overnight and through week ahead of sunny weekend
Showers are possible overnight into Wednesday, and become more likely Thursday and Friday, ahead of a sunny weekend, forecasters said.
"Much of any precipitation will hold off until tonight," the National Weather Service said, but there is a "slight chance for light showers" late Tuesday afternoon on Long Island as moisture moves in from the south."
Any downpours may continue into Wednesday and on into Thursday, when a cold front should reach the tristate area, boosting the odds of rain to 50%. As it travels through the region, those odds climb to 60% on Friday, according to the weather service.
Then, sunny skies and dry weather will dominate through the weekend and on Monday, the weather service said.
There is also a high risk of dangerous rip currents on the South Shore beaches, including Robert Moses State Park and Gilgo State Park, for Wednesday and Thursday, the weather service said.
