Yes, it's cold. And it's about to get more so, forecasters say.

In fact, "cold is the word of the week," said Rich Von Ohlen, News 12 Long Island meteorologist. That's as polar air is making for conditions more akin to those of the dead of winter.

Temperatures normally rise to 44 degrees or so this time of year, but Tuesday, expected to reach the low 30s, made it to 31  in midafternoon. Even with sunny skies, that was feeling more like 20 degrees, thanks to wind chill.

We then see a dive down to the upper teens around daybreak Wednesday, again with winds making  it feel more like 5 degrees or so, the weather service said.

"Looks like January — we're going backwards, it seems," Von Ohlen said.

Wednesday is looking at highs in the upper 20s, but feeling colder, thanks to gusty northwest winds.

Even colder conditions are expected around sunrise Thursday, the mid-teens, with chances of flurries  until around noon, the National Weather Service said. Thursday is looking at highs of about 30 degrees.

After  a dip to the upper teens early Friday, temperatures start rising — to the mid-30s for highs, and low 40s for Saturday.

Then, here it is again: Overnight Friday into Saturday is looking to bring a 30 percent chance of snow, the weather service said.
