Along with showers and chances for heavier rain in some areas, Tuesday evening commuters could also face some spots of fog, forecasters say.

There could be some minor urban and poor drainage flooding into Tuesday evening, the National Weather Service said.

Precipitation was set to start diminishing by around 7 to 8 p.m., said Jay Engle, National Weather Service meteorologist in Upton.

With warm, humid air in place, overnight temperatures were expected to drop to the upper 60s, with 53 considered normal at Long Island MacArthur Airport.

Precipitation is expected to pick up again Wednesday, with chances of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast.

Much of Long Island is in an area that has a slight risk for severe thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon into the evening, with the main threat coming from gusty winds, the weather service said.

Wednesday is also expected to be warm and humid, as temperatures head up to the high 70s, well above the normal of 70 degrees for this time of year.

A high rip current risk is in effect at ocean beaches through Wednesday evening.

Then, “drier and cooler air will result in improving conditions during late Wednesday night into Thursday,” the weather service said. That’s as highs of around 70 degrees are expected, with partly sunny skies.
