No heat advisory predicted for Long Island for Wednesday

Several days into September and Wednesday is looking to be muggy and warmer-than-normal – but not quite as uncomfortable as Tuesday's record-setting heat, forecasters say.

Indeed, look for “well-above normal” temperatures right through Thursday, said Rich Hoffman, News 12 Long Island meteorologist.

“Wednesday will feature a mix of sun and clouds,” with temperatures a few degrees cooler than Tuesday’s and continuing muggy conditions, the National Weather Service said in its regional summary late Tuesday afternoon.

Look for highs Wednesday in the low to mid 80s. That’s following Tuesday’s warming up to the low 90s, with Long Island MacArthur Airport setting a new record of 92 degrees. The airport’s normal daily high for much of this week is 77 degrees.

Wednesday night brings a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms.

Thursday, then, sees temperatures warm up to the high 80s and around 90, with chances of showers and thunderstorms starting in the afternoon, said Carlie Buccola, weather service meteorologist in Upton.

That precipitation clears the air, as Friday is expected to feature mostly cloudy skies and temperatures more akin to normal.
