Temperatures Tuesday evening will dip into the mid-30s across Long Island under mostly clear skies before clouds move in with showers likely Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Brief, heavy downpours are possible in the afternoon and evening Wednesday. And the biggest threat will be strong winds, which could reach 30 to 45 mph, with the potential for gusts up to 52 mph, the weather service said.

"Winds could down scattered tree limbs and damage unsecured objects. A few power lines could be downed as well," the weather service said. "While flooding is not expected, brief heavy downpours may still affect the evening rush."

A gale warning will be in effect for all waters Wednesday afternoon into the evening.

Highs should be around 60 degrees.

Then Thursday, the rain will clear out but the high winds could stick around, with speeds up to 30 mph possible. Highs are expected to be in the mid-40s.

Friday is forecast to be sunny, with highs in the upper 40s.

Temperatures will warm up into the upper 50s on Saturday, but the day will also be rainy and breezy, the weather service said.

"A prefrontal trough appears to set up that will bring the bulk of the precipitation Saturday afternoon, with some light rain associated with the actual front for the first half of Saturday night," the weather service said. "Right now, the entire event looks to be around a quarter of an inch (of rain) or less, but do expect some fine tuning as we approach the end of the week."

Sunday will be sunny, with highs around 50 degrees. There is a slight chance of precipitation at night.

Then Monday, there is a 40% chance of rain. Highs in the low 50s are predicted.
