Long Island weather: After a sunny stretch, clouds and possible rain Wednesday

The recent stretch of warm, sunny weather that blessed Long Islanders through the holiday weekend is coming to a close, as clouds thicken Tuesday night and rain could arrive Wednesday, forecasters said.
After another stellar clear day Tuesday, the National Weather Service says clouds will arrive in the evening on Long Island and there is a 20% chance of showers after 9 a.m. Wednesday. Temperatures will stay in the mid-80s, but Wednesday night will be cloudy and there is a slight chance of thunderstorms after midnight.
The chance of rain and storms moves up to 40% both Thursday during the day and evening with a high of 81 degrees, followed by the sun's return Friday and cooler temperatures, with a high near 74.
Saturday will be a twin, and then rain is likely to reappear on Sunday, when the weather service says the odds are 50%. Storms will perhaps stick around Monday, when the chances of rain are 30%.
Highs on Sunday and Monday will be in the mid- to upper 70s, the weather service said.
The showers will arrive from the south and their arrival remains a bit unclear.
"A deep moisture influx from the Gulf of Mexico may lead to some moderate to heavy rainfall Sunday and Sunday night," the weather service said. "The timing remains uncertain."
