The deep chill that has enveloped the region in recent days continues Tuesday night, with a warming trend beginning Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

"Expect another very cold night tonight with radiational cooling allowing outlying areas to plummet with temperatures into the lower teens and single digits while New York City has lows in the lower to mid 20s," the service's regional summary said Tuesday afternoon. "Wednesday will feature upper 30s to near 40 for highs with Thursday and Friday getting well into the 40s for highs."

Canadian high pressure will make for dry, sunny conditions on Long Island until Saturday, when clouds develop and there is a strong chance for rain, forecasters said. Clouds are expected Sunday with a high in the low 40s.
