Temperatures on Tuesday are taking a step back from Monday's highs in the mid-50s to a high of 44.

Temperatures on Tuesday are taking a step back from Monday’s highs in the mid-50s, but look for a return to the 50s later in the week, forecasters say.

Both Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to feature sunny skies and highs around the low to mid-40s, according to the National Weather Service. As for precipitation, “dry conditions are expected through the middle of the week.”

“This week, enjoy the temperatures, a little bit above normal” for some days, said Rich Hoffman, News 12 Long Island meteorologist. For Tuesday it’s going to be “breezy and cooler compared to yesterday.”

Gusty winds are still around, with Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma reporting a temperature of 39 degrees around 11 a.m., feeling like 30, given the northwest winds. The normal high for the day at the airport is 46, with 30 the normal low.

Those winds should be diminishing by the late afternoon and early evening, the weather service said.

By Thursday, we’re looking at partly sunny skies and temperatures rising to the low 50s.

Chances of precipitation enter the picture early morning Friday, with patchy fog and potential showers, even a rumble of thunder, the weather service said. Those showers become likely in the afternoon, also with possible thunderstorms.

Temperatures Friday? Early morning lows in the mid-40s are expected, with temperatures rising to the upper 50s during the day.

As for the weekend, Hoffman says the mostly sunny conditions should be conducive for outdoor yard work — with Saturday looking at highs in the low 50s, and Sunday, St. Patrick’s Day, the low 40s.
