Scattered thunderstorms were forecast to be moving through the area Tuesday night but the western part of the tristate was due to get more severe conditions, the National Weather Service said.

Winds, already at about 20 mph throughout the day, may ramp up during those storms, forecasters said.

After the chance of more storms overnight, Wednesday should be sunny and warm and temperatures should be in the low to mid 80s throughout the week.

There is also an air quality alert from the state health department warning of high levels of ozone Wednesday and advising the elderly and those with medical issues to stay in air-conditioning. Also Wednesday, in another hazard, dangerously high rip currents are expecting throughout the day and into the night at South Shore beaches.

Thursday has a chance of showers in the morning and evening but otherwise should be mostly sunny.

Friday and the weekend should be mostly sunny as well and the next chance of storms is on Monday, forecasters said.
