Forecast: Warm and mostly dry; a lovely July week ahead
Long Islanders can expect a week of mostly warm, clear weather — with less humidity than last week — other than an "uncomfortable" Tuesday, meteorologists from the National Weather Service said.
Monday's highs are predicted to be in the mid-80s, with temperatures in the lower 80s along the South Shore, said weather service meteorologist Jay Engle, who is based in Upton. It won't be "terribly humid" on Monday and skies should be clear.
Monday night will see lows in the mid-60s before temperatures jump into the mid- to upper 80s on Tuesday, Engle said.
“A few spots along the North Shore may flirt with 90,” he said.
There is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday evening and Tuesday night, Engle said, as high humidity will make the moisture in the air feel like "it's literally sticking to you."
After that, Upton-based weather service meteorologist Tim Morrin said it will be “a seasonable or an average week as we head toward the middle of July, unlike last week, when we had an unseasonably hot and humid weather pattern.”
Engle said typical temperatures for this time of year are between 80 and 85 degrees.
Wednesday should be mostly sunny with highs in the mid-80s — with 80 degrees on the East End — and nearly the same forecast is expected for Thursday and into the weekend.
