Tuesday - which follows three sunny, mild days that practically shouted spring – is to feature more cloud cover, with showers starting later in the evening, forecasters say.

Temperatures Tuesday continue to be seasonable, rising to around 60 degrees, with 61 the norm for the day at Long Island MacArthur Airport.

“Clouds will lower and thicken on Tuesday as an area of low pressure to our southeast approaches,” the National Weather Service’s Upton office said in its regional summary.

That means those evening showers lead into more sustained rain overnight Tuesday, with moderate rainfall expected by Wednesday morning, lasting into the afternoon and then diminishing to more of a “showery situation” into the evening, said Jay Engle, weather service meteorologist.

There’s also potential for areas of fog Wednesday and a passing thunderstorm, the weather service said. Look for temperatures to rise, mostly, to the upper 50s.

“Stormy weather on Wednesday,” with temperatures “staying on the mild side and near normal” for the coming days, said Rich Hoffman, News 12 Long Island meteorologist.

Thursday, then, was looking to bring partly sunny skies and highs in the low 60s, the weather service said.
