Monday’s temperatures reached 67 degrees, accompanied by gusty winds, and Tuesday looks to be sliding right into the upper 70s for much of Long Island, with cooler temperatures on the East End, forecasters said.

In fact, “it will feel like summer through the week,” said Rich Hoffman, News 12 Long Island meteorologist.

“High pressure will drift to the south of the area during Tuesday and set the stage for increasing temperatures and humidity through the midweek period,” the National Weather Service said in its regional summary.

Sunny or mostly sunny skies are expected for Tuesday through Thursday, with highs of around 80 degrees Wednesday — and make that the mid-80s for Thursday, said Carlie Buccola, weather service meteorologist based in Upton.

For many on Long Island, this warm-up can be seen as “a welcome change,” she said, with the month having seen a string of cooler than normal days.

The normal daily high for this time of year is about 67 degrees, she said.
