Long Island weather: Wednesday begins sunny, warm stretch

Cool, clear and dry morning conditions give way to mostly sunny skies on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, the National Weather Service said.
Wednesday’s forecast for Long Island calls for sunshine and daily highs in the mid- to upper 50s, the National Weather Service said.
Thanks partly to high pressure moving over the Northeast, Wednesday begins a stretch of days that will be mostly dry and sunny, said the service’s Upton office.
Northeast winds are from 5 to 10 mph, shifting to the southwest later in the day.
The sunshine and climbing temperatures are related to a high-pressure system building in eastern Canada and moving southwest toward Long Island, the service said.
The mild weather is expected to continue through the weekend, with temperatures pushing into the 60s on Saturday and Sunday, News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said.
“Temperatures will be near normal to above normal into the weekend,” he said.
Overnight lows Wednesday into Thursday are in the mid-30s to low 40s, Hoffman said. Clouds increase during the nighttime and then skies gradually clear.
Thursday is expected to be sunny and breezy with east-northeast winds up to 15 mph. Daily highs are expected in the mid-50s to low 60s.
