Long Island’s chilly early April weather continues Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

The service’s Upton office said it had a daily record low of 23 degrees at Long Island MacArthur Airport before sunrise on Wednesday, breaking the previous daily record low of 27 in 1995.

And although it will warm up a bit, daily highs Wednesday in the mid 40s are about 10 degrees colder than April’s maximum mean temperature of 57 degrees, according to service research.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said Nassau and Suffolk counties can expect colder than normal temperatures to extend for about the next week.

“More record lows are possible Sunday morning and Monday morning,” Hoffman said.

Daily highs for the next several days range from the upper 50s on Thursday to the mid 40s on Sunday, both Hoffman and the service said.

Conditions Wednesday also include sunny skies and northeast winds shifting southeast and kicking up from 5 to 15 mph.

Hoffman said skies get cloudy Wednesday night and showers develop toward Thursday morning. Overnight lows are in the low 40s, giving way later Thursday to periods of rain, sometimes heavy.

Winds from the south are at 10 to 20 mph, gusting to 30 mph.
