Long Island weather: More storms predicted for LI in overnight hours

Showers and thunderstorms, potentially packing heavy rain, were predicted to crank up overnight across Long Island, forecasters said.
They “may be associated with locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds,” said the National Weather Service, which also sees the highest rainfall overnight for Long Island and southern areas of Connecticut, to the tune of half an inch to an inch.
As a reminder, all thunderstorms produce lightning. “If you hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck,” the weather service says.
Chances of precipitation continue into Thursday, but the day won’t be a washout, News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said. There’ll be breaks of sun, along with possible hit-or-miss storms. Look for temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s.
A less humid air mass moves in for Friday, forecast to see mostly sunny skies and temperatures again in the upper 70s or so. Sun and similar temperatures are also expected for Saturday and Sunday.
