Long Island weather: Afternoon sunshine turns to overnight rain, stormy Thursday

Wednesday's sunshine and high clouds will last the day but overnight, showers and storms will be arriving, the National Weather Service said.
Wednesday's high of 82 will drop to about 64 at night and rain will develop, on and off, through Thursday morning. Those showers and storms will linger and intensify in the late morning, although there may be some sun in the afternoon.
Winds gusting to about 24 mph will clear out the clouds Thursday night with a low of 59, the weather service said.
Those same winds are driving South Shore ocean swells from the departing cyclone Alex and the weather service warned of dangerous riptides Wednesday that will last through Thursday.
Friday should be a winner, with sunshine and a high of 76 but clouds will be moving in overnight and rain is expected Saturday afternoon with a high near 72.
After a risk of rain Saturday night, Sunday looks sunny with a high in the mid 70s, with Monday and Tuesday predicted to have similar conditions, forecasters said.
