Cloudy skies and light winds are expected for Wednesday on Long Island with a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon, forecasters said.

After a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms through Wednesday evening, Long Islanders can look forward to a stretch of sunny or mostly sunny days, with temperatures rising to the upper 70s to low 80s, forecasters say. The weekend included, people!

Indeed, Rich Hoffman, a News 12 Long Island meteorologist, answers more than a few prayers with this assessment: “Great beach and boating weather this weekend. Good for all outdoors events.”

Look for “dry weather along with mostly clear skies for the remainder of the week,” the National Weather Service said Wednesday in its regional summary.

Right, but how about humidity?

Comfortable levels are expected, the weather service says. That’s at least until Sunday.

This stretch is “a well-earned reprieve from the humidity and tropical air masses,” part of a persistent pattern that’s brought unsettled, showery conditions, said Jay Engle, a weather service meteorologist in Upton. The coming days may even bring a hint of September, he said.

Those who are wishing for hotter, more humid days will just have to wait for early next week. That’s as Monday is looking at highs in the upper 80s.
