Long Islanders can look forward to two mostly sunny days to wrap up the work week before — once again — there is a chance of rain for Saturday, forecasters said.

Look for Thursday to warm up to the low 70s for areas closer to the city and the mid-60s for the East End, according to the National Weather Service. Friday was looking to have highs in the upper 70s to low 70s, respectively.

And, now, here it comes – “a cold front will bring unsettled weather for the weekend,” the weather service said in its regional summary late afternoon Wednesday.

Indeed, “looks like wet weather for the weekend,” said Rich Hoffman, News 12 Long Island meteorologist.

Overnight Friday brings a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms, with that increasing to 50 percent for Saturday, which was looking at highs in the mid-70s to upper 60s.

Still, that was as of late Wednesday, and there was still uncertainty as to the track of the system, said Brian Ciemnecki, weather service meteorologist.

Sunday, though, was looking to bring a return to sunny skies, he said.
