The first day of May, picking up where April left off, has brought clouds, mist and certainly some chillier than normal temperatures, with continuing unsettled weather expected through the weekend, forecasters say.
As for sunshine? Don’t look for that until early next week.
And, yes, we may think it should be nicer, but “Mother Nature says, ‘not so fast,’” said Rich Von Ohlen, News 12 meteorologist.
Temperatures for much of the Island have stayed put in the low 50s Wednesday afternoon, with winds mostly from the southeasterly direction, delivering cooler air off the ocean, said Rich Hoffman, News 12 Long Island meteorologist.
As of around 3 p.m. Long Island MacArthur Airport was reporting 52 degrees, with cloudy skies and winds from the southeast. The normal high for the day is 63 degrees.
Look for some spritzes and sprinkles, with areas of fog and drizzle at night, Von Ohlen said.
Thursday’s expected to be milder, with temperatures rising into the 60s, possible a touch of the low 70s along the North Shore, he said. There are chances of showers for late afternoon and evening, possibly a thunderstorm, too.
Friday, Saturday, Sunday also look unsettled, and, wouldn’t you know it, he said. “It gets nice next Monday and Tuesday.”
