Long Island weather: Sunny, then possible showers Thursday, Friday
Abundant sunshine and a daytime high in the high 70s — Wednesday's forecast offers much to like.
The afternoon and evening will see increasing clouds, however, with a low of 63, forecasters said.
Occasional showers are in the forecast for Thursday and Friday, along with gusty winds. Friday also brings a chance of thunderstorms before the sun comes out later in the day along with a high of 85 degrees or higher.
Daytime temperatures over the next seven days mainly will run around the high 70s to low 80s — except for Friday, when they might climb as much as 10 degrees above normal in spots, reaching around 88 degrees, the forecasters said. Nighttime temperatures will likely retreat to the low 70s or mid-60s.
Wednesday, swimmers and surfers face a “moderate risk” that rip currents will form in the afternoon on western beaches.
And, the weather service cautioned that "minor coastal flooding" is possible Wednesday night in Nassau's South Shore bays.
"Just coming off a full moon, astronomical tides will continue to run high," the weather service said.
Both Saturday and Sunday, the Juneteenth holiday, should be sunny, thanks to a cloud-lifting high pressure system that “builds to the west,” and a similar ridge arises in the central United States.
“The next chance of precipitation will be late Monday into Tuesday,” the weather service said, explaining a warm front will develop along that ridge and then head east.
The shower odds for both Monday and Tuesday are 30%.
