Forecast: Showers, thunderstorms through midnight, then LI dries out

Showers and thunderstorms may continue Wednesday night as a cold front remains nearly stationary over Long Island, according to the National Weather Service. 

The Island will dry out after midnight, with seasonably warm temperatures and humidity, said the weather service in Islip. Lows will be in the 60s.

Dry conditions will continue through the day Thursday when temperatures will be seasonably warm, with highs in the 80s, except along the coast, where it will be in the 70s, the weather service said.

Unsettled weather returns Thursday night when there's a 50% chance of showers and the low will be around 64, the weather service said.

After that, Friday and Saturday have a 30% chance of rain at some point, with thermometers hovering in the mid-70s during the day, according to the weather service.

But the three days that follow, from Sunday to Tuesday, all should be sunny with temperatures climbing to the mid-70s, the forecasters said.

Until then, blame a cold front that will displace its opposite for Wednesday’s volatile weather.

"The cold front pushes south through the area by Thursday morning with showers ending," the weather service said. "Lows will generally be in the lower to mid-60s, with a few upper 50s across the far northwest."
