Sunshine and comfortable warmth through the holiday weekend, NWS says
A clear cool night across Long Island will be followed Thursday by another splash of sunshine and highs in the mid-80s, and more of the same through at least Saturday, the National Weather Service said.
The overnight low Wednesday should hover at about 65 degrees. Thursday's high will top out at 84 with another cloud-free night and lows in the mid-60s, according to the weather service.
The dry mass of air moving into the area with a cold front means “humidity will be much lower over the next couple of days,” said James Connolly, a National Weather Service meteorologist at Upton.
Friday and the Labor Day weekend will be sunny with all the earmarks of perfect summer weather.
Daytime high temperatures leading up to Labor Day hit the mid 80s, with evening lows dipping into the high 50s and mid 60s. The Monday holiday will be partly sunny with a 30% chance of showers and a high near 80.
Long Island is still in a moderate to severe drought, conditions forecasters expect to last through September or longer, Connolly said.
