After a cloudy overnight, Long Island is in for two days in which rain is threatening, the National Weather Service said.

Clouds were lingering, helping to cool conditions for Thursday, when only a daytime high of 79 is predicted.

But there is a 30% chance of showers Thursday afternoon and evening and then a 20% chance of rain Friday afternoon and evening, according to the forecast.

Except for Wednesday, when temperatures hit close to 90 in spots, daytime highs over the next seven days mostly will run around the low 80s. Most nights will be in the 60s.

All ocean beaches on Wednesday share the same moderate risk of rip currents, the weather service said.

For the weekend, the weather service said, the forecast is sunny and clear both days, and Monday and Tuesday should be much the same.
