Sunshine and temperatures in the 40s made for a beautiful day on Long Island, with more to come before a weekend change, forecasters said.

After a cloudy overnight in the mid 30s, there is a chance of rain showers Thursday morning before the sun comes out and the mercury climbs to about 48 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Friday is also expected to be sunny, with a high near 45 degrees and a low still in the 40s.

Then Saturday will feature more abundant sunshine and a high of more than 50 degrees, the weather service said.

But Saturday night, conditions change.

Overnight, the temperatures is forecast to drop to below freezing and there is a 30% chance of rain. And with the colder temperatures there is a 30% to 40% chance of snow during Sunday and Sunday night.

Monday is sunny again but the high will be just 30 degrees, forecasters said.
