Long Island weather: Frigid temps, chance of snow

Long Islanders can expect a week of frigid temperatures starting Thursday and maybe a dusting of snow Thursday night, forecasters said.
“Cold weather continues through the next seven days,” News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said Wednesday.
Thursday will bring wind chill values between 15 and 25 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, with a 20 percent chance of snow showers in the evening.
Friday and the weekend are expected to be sunny, breezy and cold, with daytime highs in the middle to high 30s and night lows in the 20s or below.
Joe Pollina, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Upton, said those temperatures are about 10 degrees colder than normal for this time of year. “Bundle up, cover any exposed skin,” he advised.
A coastal storm is expected to stay south of Long Island on Sunday and Monday, Hoffman said, with “no direct hit for us” but a chance of snowflurries and a high near 40 Monday morning.
