A coastal storm hundreds of miles offshore should not impact Long Island weather, aside from rough boating conditions, strong winds and minimal coastal flooding, forecasters said.
The storm, which is 350 miles southeast of Long Island, will continue forming on Wednesday before gradually picking up speed Wednesday night, the National Weather Service said.
NewsdayTV meteorologist Geoff Bansen said since the storm is far away, Long Island should continue to see generally sunny conditions over the next several days, with some extra high clouds.
"Rain is expected to stay offshore," he said.
Long Island may also experience breezy conditions on Wednesday with gusts up to 30 mph in Farmingdale and 38 mph in Montauk.
"The only thing we're really concerned about is the rougher waters," Bansen said of commercial fishing boats now that the recreational boating season is over. "So, people need not worry outside of mariners and people with very easily flooded basements."
A coastal flood advisory is in effect on Wednesday for southern Nassau County from 3 to 7 p.m. and southwest Suffolk County from 5 to 9 p.m.
The coastal storm comes weeks after a nor’easter hit the area, causing power outages, flooding and downed trees.
"Let me be clear — it [the coastal storm] is nowhere in the same stratosphere as what we had a couple weeks ago," Bansen said.
Winds should gradually decrease into the weekend as temperatures rise.
By Monday temperatures will be close to 70 degrees.
"Temperatures are pretty seasonable for the foreseeable future," he said. "There's really not any big cold patches."
At this rate, Halloween weather conditions look more like treats than tricks.
"Halloween week looks mild right now," Bansen said. "So that's certainly the hope."
