Of the first six days of November four have warmed up to 60 degrees or above, with Wednesday a candidate to join them, forecasters say. Of course, such a run is bound to end, and end it does, as the weekend ushers in cooler air.
For Wednesday, Rich Hoffman, News 12 Long Island meteorologist, says to “leave the umbrella at home today and grab the sunglasses.”
The forecast is for sunny skies and a high in the low 60s at MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma, the National Weather Service says. The airport’s normal high for the day is 56 degrees, with 39 its normal low.
Thursday, too, is looking to be sunny, warming up to the mid 50s.
Back we go, then, to rain for Friday and overnight, with the day heading up to the mid 50s for a high temperature.
While the airport was averaging 6.8 degrees above normal as of day-end Tuesday, that’s about to really change with the weekend.
Saturday warms up to the low 50s, the weather service says, and Sunday is expected to head up to only the upper 40s. That’s after an early morning low of around 32 degrees.
The start of the workweek, then, sees highs in the low 50s.
As for any hopes for a bounce-back to the 60s, the Climate Prediction Center is thinking otherwise.
There’s an 80 percent probability for nearly all the northeastern U.S., Long Island included, to average out at cooler than normal for the period from next Monday to Friday. There’s also a slight tilt toward above normal precipitation.
