Forecast: Warm, wet start to a week that turns colder

A mild Monday will give way to chilly, below-normal temperatures — and potential snowfall — later in the week, according to the National Weather Service in Upton.
Fog and drizzle Sunday night will continue overnight into Monday, when skies are expected to clear and temperatures will reach the mid-50s, said meteorologist Adrienne Leptich.
A cold front approaching Monday night will bring lows in the 30s and keep temperatures brisk the rest of the workweek.
The high temperature Tuesday will be around 40, with a low in the 20s.
Wednesday will be the chilliest day as the “the core of the colder air” behind the front settles in over Long Island, Leptich said. Highs will be in the mid- to upper 30s, and the mercury will dip to the low to mid-20s, Leptich said.
High temperatures Thursday and Friday will hover around 40. Snow showers, which are “not looking like much of a big deal at all,” are possible both days because of a disturbance in the upper level of the atmosphere, Leptich said. The Thursday low will be 30, and the Friday low will slide to the upper teens to low 20s.
The normal high temperature in Islip this time of year is in the upper 40s, and the low is in the lower 30s.
