Long Island forecast: Rain early Monday gives way to cool, drier week ahead

Expect a pattern of cool weather to hang around this week, with Long Island temperatures slightly below normal for this time of year.

Following a wet overnight with mild breezes, Long Islanders can expect the rain to taper off around sunrise, said Jim Connolly, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Upton.

Connolly said the coming week will be mostly dry with a warming trend by the end of the week.

"It’s going to warm up as we get into Thursday and Friday, with highs in mid and upper 60s," he said.

There is a 30% chance of rain until about 8 a.m. Monday on an otherwise cloudy day with the thermometers reaching about 62 degrees.

Sun and dry conditions were predicted for the rest of the week, with a high of about 63 degrees in the forecast for Tuesday, with temperatures reaching the mid-60s on Wednesday. Thursday will be sunny with a high near 64 degrees.

Friday is predicted to be the warmest day of the week with temperatures reaching about 66, according to the weather service. Saturday will be even warmer with a high near 67 degrees.
