Long Islanders can expect a cool and dry start to November as temperatures begin to dip and the season's first frost predicted for early Wednesday.

However, James Tomasini from the National Weather Service said that according to the Climate Prediction Center's Monthly Temperature Outlook, there is a higher chance of seeing "above average" temperatures through November.

He said the average temperature for the beginning of November is around 55.

This week on Long Island, a sunny Monday with a high of 58 degrees is expected with northwest winds 7 to 14 mph. Monday night will be partly cloudy, with a low around 42.

This kicks off a dry stretch that will last until Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with a high near 56. The temperature will drop at night to a low around 40 and clouds will gradually clear up.

Then, Wednesday, cold air invades and the day dawns with the promise of frost between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m., the weather service said. The sun does show up, along with a high of 53 but there will be a chilly nighttime low of 38, forecasters said. Thursday morning will be mostly sunny with a high near 51, but there will be a 30% chance of rain at night with a low around 40.

Rain projections continue Friday with a 40% chance of rain and a high in the low 50s. Chances of rain increase to 50% Friday night with a low of 42.

Saturday will also see a 50% chance of rain with highs in the mid 50s during the day and dropping to the low 40s at night.

Sunday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 56.
