Minor coastal flooding forecast for Friday
High tides late Friday night could lead to minor coastal flooding of the South Shore bays of western Long Island, the National Weather Service said in a hazard message.
The message applies to southwestern Suffolk and southern Nassau counties, as well as parts of Manhattan and Queens, the Upton-based service said.
High tide for the area is roughly between 11:30 p.m. and midnight, according to marine forecast data.
The service said widespread minor coastal flooding is not anticipated.
"Tidal departures of around one-half of a foot will bring tidal levels to near that of coastal flood benchmarks," the service said. "Isolated locations could exceed coastal flood benchmarks by a few tenths of a foot, especially along the South Shore bays of western Long Island."
